Abstract:
fhe experiment was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of neem and some
other plant extracts against yellow mite of jute, Pophagoiarsonernus laws
(Banks) at the Jute Agriculture Experimental Station (JAES). Manikgonj.
Bangladesh. Green and dry neem leaf, turmeric powder. garlic, mehogoni seed,
green ailmonda leaf and neem oil were tested against the pest in this
experiment. Among the difièrent plant materials neem oil showed the best
performance in reducing yellow mite population and increased number of
leaves plant". stem height base diameter and yield of jute. Mehogoni seed
extract also showed the similar efficacy against the yellow mite of jute. Green
and dry neem leaf extracts, turmeric powder and garlic paste also significantly
reduced the mite infestation but their efficacy was unsatisfactory. Neern oil and
mehogoni seed extract might be used for the control of yellow mite but it needs
to explore the toxic compound of mehogoni seed.
