Abstract:
An attempt was made to study variability, genetic parameter, correlation and path
coefficient analysis in 21 rice genotypes in Sher-c-Bangla Agricultural University
during November 2012 to April 2013. Significant variations were obtained among the
genotypes for all the character studied . Considering genetic parameters high
genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) was observed for 1000 grain weight
followed by number of filled grain/particle, grain yield/sqm and number of
spikeletlpanicle, whereas days to flowering showed very low GCV. High heritability
with high genetic advance in percent mean (GAPM) was observed for number of
filled grain/panicle followed by grain yield/sqm, number of spikeletlpanicle indicated
that these characters were under additive gene control and selection for genetic
improvement for these traits might be effective. Days to maturity showed high
heritability but low OA(%),which indicated that non additive gene effects were
involved for phenotypic expression of this character and selection for such trait may
not be rewarding. Correlation coefficient between grain yield/sqm with 1000 grain
weight, panicle weight(gm),number of spikelet/panicle, number of filled grain,
number of primary branches/particle were positive and highly significant. Among inter
character association primary branch vs. number of filled grain vs.1000 grain weight,
number of spikeletlpanicle vs. 1000 grain weight, panicle weight vs. 1000 grain weight
showed highly significant positive correlation. Path coefficient analysis at genotypic
level revealed that maximum direct contribution towards grain yield was obtained
through 1000 grain weight indicated that this trait should be considered as primary
components of yield. Number of filled grain showed considerable positive indirect
effect on 1000 grain weight. The residual effect was 0.1076.
