Abstract:
The experiment was conducted at the Hurt icull nrc Research Center Ilirm in Bangladesh
Agricultural Research Institute, Joydehpur. Ciazipur during October 2007 to March
2008. There were live tomato varieties, viz.. BARI Tomato-2. BARI Tomato-3. BARI
Tomato-4, BARI Tomato-9 and BARI hybrid Tomato-4 and two planting dates viz..
November 01, November 15. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete
Block Design (RUB!)) with three replications. Varieties had significant influence on
growth and yield of tomato. 11w variety BARI hybrid Tomato-4 produced the highest
yiôId (3.42 tiha) and BAR]
Tomato-9 produced the lowest yield (40.42 L/ha).Thc
highest percent of fruit set (63.47) was found in BARI l'ornato-4 and lowest (47.91) in
BARI
Tomato- 9:I'he variety BARI Tomato-3 produced largest fruit (121.3 gm)
compared to oilier four varieties. Planting dates had no significant influence on growth
and yield of tomato. However, growth and yield were best in November IS planting.
The highest yield of tomato ($7.42 t/ha) was obtained from November 15 planting and
lowest yield (59.20 1/ha) from November01 planting. Combined effect of varieties and
planting dates had significant influence on growth and yield of tomato. BARI hybrid
Tomato-4 gave the highest yield (91.15 tIha) on November 15 planting and BARI
Tomato-9 gave the lowest yield (41.47 i/ha) on November 15 planting. It may be
conclttdcd that. BARI hybrid Toinato-4 planted on November 15 would be beneficial
ibr the farmer due to its higher y
ield (91.15 C/ha).
