<title>INCIDENCE AND SEVERITY OF CONTAMINATION OF SUBSTRATES OF MAPLE OYSTER MUSHROOM (Pleurotus cystidiosus) AND  MANAGEMENT THROUGH CHEMICALS AND BOTANICALS</title>

An experiment was conducted at the Plant Pathology laboratory and Mushroom Culture&#13;
House (MCH) in the Department of Plant pathology, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University&#13;
(SAU), during October, 2021 to April 2022, to investigate the prevalence of microorganisms&#13;
on mushroom substrates and the efficiency of chemicals and botanicals on contaminations,&#13;
growth and yield of maple oyster mushroom. The experiment was consisted of single factor&#13;
and followed Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Sugarcane bagasse was treated with&#13;
different botanicals and fungicides viz: Sulcox 50 WP (Copper oxychloride), Indofil M45&#13;
(Mancozeb), Mancer 75WP (12% Carbendazim+ 63% Mancozeb), 3% Hydrogen Peroxide, &#13;
Lanatana (Lantana camera) and Nimbicidine with autoclaving. Different application along &#13;
with sugarcane bagasse showed significant variations in respect of all characters of&#13;
mushroom. Severity of contamination was varied from 4-66%, while during the 3&#13;
 harvest,&#13;
66%, 4% and 12% contamination was observed in control, Sulcox-50WP and Indofil M-45,&#13;
respectively. No severity of contamination was found when the substrate was supplemented&#13;
with botanicals after autoclaving. The highest growth rate (0.45 cm/day), the maximum&#13;
number of primordia /packet (82.4), the maximum number of effective fruiting bodies&#13;
/packet ((42.2), biological yield (157.04 g), economic yield (125.0 g) were recorded from&#13;
Copper oxychloride treated packet, while the lowest performance was obtained from control&#13;
in all cases. Trichoderma harzianum and Aspergillus niger were isolated and identified from&#13;
contaminated spawns. Under In-vitro evaluation of chemicals, maximum inhibition of&#13;
Trichoderma harzianum (68.76%) and Aspergillus niger (91.28%) were recorded from 3%&#13;
hydrogen peroxide treated plate. In case of botanicals, Aspergillus niger (41.96%) and&#13;
Trichoderma (30.67%) were inhibited by Lantana, while, Trichoderma (27.7%) and&#13;
Aspergillus niger (26.16%) was inhibited by Nimbicidin. The economic yield of oyster&#13;
mushroom was correlated positively with number of fruiting bodies and the biological&#13;
efficiency. It may be revealed that supplementation with botanicals after autoclaving is the&#13;
best option to mitigate the substrate contamination of maple oyster mushroom.

<title>INVESTIGATION AND MEASUREMENT OF DISEASES OF SEED SPICES AND CULINARY HERBS OF BANGLADESH</title>

An experiment was conducted for detection and identification of diseases of seed spices and&#13;
to measure their incidence and severity during 2021-2022. The disease incidence and&#13;
severity were recorded under natural epiphytic conditions. The most common seed spices&#13;
and herbs of Bangladesh are coriander, cumin, dill/ Indian dill, black cumin, fennel,&#13;
fenugreek, sickle fruit fenugreek, celery and ajowan were considered for this experiment.&#13;
The mentioned nine species are mostly herbaceous plants which belong to different genus&#13;
and different families respectively. Like other corps, seed spices and culinary herbs are not&#13;
free from microbial (fungus, bacteria, nematode, virus etc.) infection and diseases. In the&#13;
field experiment of these nine seed spices, identified diseases were foot &amp; root rot, leaf spot,&#13;
leaf blight, umbel blight etc. Foot and root rot disease was noticed severely in fenugreek&#13;
field at the seedling stage and also in black cumin that was caused by Sclerotium rolfsii.&#13;
Among the three varieties, the lowest disease incidence was recorded in BARI Methi 3, and&#13;
the highest disease incidence was recorded in BARI Methi 2. Leaf spot was recorded in&#13;
coriander which is caused by Fusarium spp. Both disease incidence and disease severity&#13;
were the highest in BARI Dhonia 2. Leaf blight disease was recorded in fennel, cumin, wild&#13;
celery, ajowan and dill which were caused by different species of Alternaria. Umbel blight&#13;
was recorded in fennel also caused by Alternaria spp. Umbel blight also observed in wild&#13;
celery and ajowan field but only few umbels were affected. In case of leaf and umbel blight&#13;
there was no significance difference between BARI Mouri 1 and BARI Mouri 2. However,&#13;
in case of cumin, dill, wild celery and Ajowan, disease incidence and disease severity was&#13;
increased with the increasing age of the plant. All cumin plants were blighted before&#13;
flowering stage was caused by Alternaria spp. Powdery mildew disease was observed in&#13;
coriander and dill field but a very small portion of umbel were affected.

<title>INTEGRATED APPROACH FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF FOOT AND ROOT ROT DISEASE OF LENTIL CAUSED   BY Sclerotium rolfsii</title>

An experiment was conducted for the management of foot and root rot of lentil caused by&#13;
Sclerotium rolfsii at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the&#13;
period from October 2022 to March 2023. Fifteen different treatments and an untreated&#13;
control were assessed against the disease. These treatments include chemical fungicide (eg.&#13;
Tilt 250 EC @0.1%, Autostin 50 WP @0.3%), Bio-fungicides (eg. Dynamic @0.1%,&#13;
Bioderma @0.4%, Lycomax @0.4%), soil amendments (Bioderma Peat soil @1t/ha, Poultry&#13;
refuse @5t/ha) and integration of those. Susceptible variety BARI Masur-1 was used in this&#13;
experiment. In field experiments, the lowest disease incidence was recorded in T&#13;
 (Dynamic&#13;
+ Lycomax + Poultry refuse) which was (1%) in vegetative stage, (1.66%) in flowering stage&#13;
and maturity stage. The highest disease incidence was observed in T&#13;
 (control) which was&#13;
(18.66%) in vegetative stage, (32.33%) in flowering stage and (46.66%) in maturity stage. In&#13;
all cases of growth parameters viz. plant height (cm), no. of branch, shoot length (cm), root&#13;
length (cm) were the highest in T&#13;

and lowest in T&#13;

. In case of fresh plant weight (g/m&#13;
) the&#13;
highest value was observed in T&#13;
 (Dynamic + Bioderma + Poultry refuse) which was&#13;
(1166.7 g) and the lowest was observed in T&#13;

<title>EVALUATION THE STATUS OF COMMERCIAL HYBRIDS MAIZE IN RESPONSE TO TRANSMIT THE VIRUSES CAUSING MAIZE   LETHAL NECROSIS DISEASE (MLND)</title>

Virus transmission through seed is common method in many annual crops including maize.&#13;
Transmission of viruses causing maize lethal necrosis disease (MLND) through seed has&#13;
been reported. An experiment was conducted in the laboratory and field condition under the&#13;
Department of Plant Pathology of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka-1207&#13;
during 2022-2023.The lab experiment was carried out in a Completely Randomized Design&#13;
(CRD) with four replications and the field experiment in a Randomized Complete Block&#13;
Design (RCBD) with three applications. In total ten varieties/lines viz., GT722, HEERA-55,&#13;
10V20, Tain-927, APURBA-784, Kohinoor, Konok, SUPER-92, Super Shine-2760 and&#13;
Sweet corn were selected for conducting the experiments. Among the tested maize&#13;
varieties/lines, the lowest disease incidence and severity (at reproductive stage) of MLND&#13;
was found in variety HEERA-55 and the highest in line GT-722 and variety SUPER-92.&#13;
According to disease rating scale used in this study, all the tested varieties/lines showed&#13;
highly susceptible while variety HEERA-55 showed susceptible reaction. From the findings&#13;
of the study, it was revealed that out of ten tested varieties/lines, two varieties; Super Shine2760&#13;
&#13;
and SUPER-92 showed better performance in terms of morpho-physiological features&#13;
as well as yield and yield contributing characters as compared to other tested varieties/lines&#13;
against MLND.  It was also revealed that chlorophyll content was higher in healthy leaves&#13;
then diseased leaves due to MLND. From the findings on different parameters considered in&#13;
the present study, it can be concluded that viruses caused maize lethal necrosis disease&#13;
(MLND) in maize transmitted through the seeds.
