<title>CONSTRAINTS FACED BY THE FARMERS IN LOTKON CULTIVATION</title>
<link>http://localhost:8080/handle/123456789/889</link>
<description>CONSTRAINTS FACED BY THE FARMERS IN LOTKON CULTIVATION
HASAN, A F. M. MAHABUBUL
The main focus of the present study was to determine the constraints faced by the farmers&#13;
in lotkon cultivation and to explore the relationships between the constraints faced by the&#13;
farmers and their selected characteristics. The study was conducted at Joynogar village of&#13;
Joynogar union and Shristighor village of Josar union as the typical area for lotkon &#13;
cultivation of Shibpur Upazilla under Narsingdi District. Data were collected from&#13;
proportionately randomly selected 100 lotkon farmers from an update list of 997 lotkon &#13;
farmers of the study area which was prepared with the help of Sub-Assistant Agricultural&#13;
Officers of that area. The researcher himself collected data through personal contact with a&#13;
well structured pretested interview schedule during the period from Otto 30 September, &#13;
2012. The study revealed that highest proportion&#13;
(65&#13;
percent) of the respondents faced&#13;
medium constraints in lotkon cultivation, while 21 percent and 14 percent of the &#13;
respondents faced high and low constraints respectively. Pearson's Product Moment&#13;
Correlation co-efficient (r) was computed to explore the relationships between the&#13;
constraints faced by the farmers in lotkon cultivation and their each of twelve selected&#13;
characteristics. The correlation analysis indicated that education, extension media contact,&#13;
training exposure, innovativeness, attitude towards lotkon cultivation and knowledge on &#13;
lotkon cultivation had significant negative relationships with the constraints faced by the&#13;
farmers in lotkon cultivation. Age, lotkon farm size, land possession, number of lotkon&#13;
trees, annual family income and annual income from lotkon had non-significant&#13;
relationships with the problems in lotkon cultivation. The Constraint Faced Index (CFI)&#13;
indicated that the farmers faced highest problem in "lower price in the field than the urban&#13;
market" followed by "lowcr germination of female plant" and "lack of necessary technical &#13;
advice from the extension workers"

<link>http://localhost:8080/handle/123456789/888</link>
<description>PROBLEM FACED BY TRADERS FOR VEGETABLE MARKETING IN DHAKA CITY
MD.MONIRUZZAMAN
The purpose of this study was to assess the extent of problems faced by the vegetable &#13;
trader in Dhaka city and to explore the association between the extent of problems &#13;
faced by the vegetable traders and their selected characteristics. The selected &#13;
characteristics were age, education, types&#13;
of shop, Nature of trading, income from &#13;
vegetable business, vegetable marketing knowledge, trading experience, daily &#13;
purchase of vegetable, capital investment in vegetable business. Data were gathered &#13;
from 150 vegetable trader of&#13;
Mirpur.Farmgate and Karwanbazar in Dhaka city by &#13;
using a structured interview schedule. For harmonious representation from each area 8 &#13;
percent sample were drawn following stratified random sampling method. Appropriate &#13;
scales were formulated in order to assess the concerned variables. SPSS software was &#13;
used to probe the data and Chi-Square was applied to examine the relationship among &#13;
the variables. The findings revealed that the highest proportion of the trader 68.7 &#13;
percent faced medium problem, while 23.3.5 percent faced high problem and 8 &#13;
percent of low problem for vegetable marketing. Hence, overwhelming majority 92 &#13;
percent of the respondents faced medium to high problem for vegetable marketing. &#13;
The statistical analysis exposed Nature of trading; capital investment in vegetable &#13;
business had significant association, while problem faced by the vegetable trader had &#13;
not significant association with the age, education, types of shop, income from &#13;
vegetable business, vegetable marketing knowledge, trading experience and daily &#13;
purchase of vegetable.

Thus, 105 Gary&#13;
women farmers constituted the sample of the study. A well structured &#13;
inten'iew schedule was developed based on objectives of the study for collecting&#13;
information. The researcher himself collected data through personal contact. AboLa&#13;
half (49.52 percent) of the respondents fell in low knowledge category Followed by&#13;
very low knowledge (27.62 percent) and medium knowledge (22.86 percent) category &#13;
in homestead thnning knowledge. Level&#13;
of education. homestead farm size, annual&#13;
family income, organizational participation, cosmopoliteness, contact with extension&#13;
agent and exposure to mass media agricultural programs had significant positive&#13;
relationships with homestead farming knowledge of&#13;

women thrmers had significant negative relationship with homestead farming&#13;
knowledge. Family size and average thmily education had positive but no significant &#13;
