<title>ATIITUDE OF RURAL WOMEN TOWARDS GOAT REARING IN A SELECTED AREA OF MEHERPUR DISTRICT</title>
<link>http://localhost:8080/handle/123456789/1487</link>
<description>ATIITUDE OF RURAL WOMEN TOWARDS GOAT REARING IN A SELECTED AREA OF MEHERPUR DISTRICT
AZIZ, MD. ABDUL
The study was carried out to assess the extent of attitude of rural women in goat &#13;
rearing. Relationships between nine selected characteristics of rural women with&#13;
their attitude in goat rearing were measured. Problems faced by the rural women '&#13;
towards goat rearing were also studied for better understanding of the situation. &#13;
Data were collected from a proportionate random sample of hundred housewives&#13;
of three villages of Gangni Upzila under Meherpur district. The extent of attitude&#13;
of rural women in 20 items of goat rearing was measured through a five point &#13;
l.ikert-type scale. A comparative attitude index was computed in twenty&#13;
statements by using attitude scale. Co-efficient of correlation 'r' was computed to&#13;
find out relationship between attitude of rural women in goat rearing and their&#13;
selected characteristics. &#13;
The highest percentage (65%) of the rural women had moderate favorable attitude&#13;
in goat rearing. Rest of the 29% and 6% respondents were favorable and less&#13;
favorable categories respectively. &#13;
Age, farm size, family income, credit availability, grazing land availability of the&#13;
rural women had no significant relationship with their attitude in goat rearing. &#13;
However, education and knowledge about goat rearing of the rural women had&#13;
positive relationship with their attitude towards goat rearing and the relationship&#13;
was highly significant. Besides, family size and communication exposure of the&#13;
rural women were significant. ''Goat dies due to plague disease" occupied first&#13;
position among the problems in goat rearing.

<title>ADOPTION OF INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT (IPM) PRACTICES BY THE VEGETABLE GROWERS OF MAGURA DISTRICT</title>
<link>http://localhost:8080/handle/123456789/1486</link>
<description>ADOPTION OF INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT (IPM) PRACTICES BY THE VEGETABLE GROWERS OF MAGURA DISTRICT
Mia, Md. Abu Touhid
The main objectives of this study was to find out the extent of adoption of Integrated Pest&#13;
\1anagement (IPM) practices by the vegetable growers and to explore the relationships between&#13;
the selected characteristics of the vegetable growers and their adoption of IPM practices. The&#13;
study was conducted in two Unions under Sreepur upazila of Magura district. A list of 125&#13;
vegetable growers of Farmers' Field School (FFS) was collected from Upazila Agriculture&#13;
Office. Out of 125 vegetable growers, 100 vegetable growers were randomly selected by taking&#13;
20 from each of 5 FFSs for the sample of the study. Data were collected from the respondents&#13;
using an interview schedule during the whole month of June 2005. Descriptive statistics, such as&#13;
mean, standard deviation, range and percentage were used to describe the variables under&#13;
consideration. Spearmari's correlation coefficient (r) was used to explore the relationship&#13;
between the selected characteristics of the vegetable growers and their adoption of lPM practices.&#13;
The data showed that only 32 percent of the vegetable growers were high user of IPM practices,&#13;
while 63 percent medium and 5 percent of the vegetable growers were low user of IPM practices&#13;
respectively. According to the land use for IPM practices only 20 percent of the vegetable&#13;
growers were high user of land and 45 percent and 35 percent of the vegetable growers are&#13;
medium and low user of land for IPM practices respectively. Among the ten selected practices&#13;
"Weed management" ranked first followed by use of healthy seeds, perching in the crop field,&#13;
use of light trap, practice of crop rotation, indigenous methods, hand sweep, use of pesticides,&#13;
collection and destroy eggs and larvae, and "cultivation of resistant variety" ranked last. The &#13;
findings also revealed that adoption of IPM practices by the vegetable growers had significant&#13;
positive correlation with their level of education, family size, farm size, annual income,&#13;
organizational participation, extension media contact, innovativeness, knowledge on IPM and&#13;
cosmopoliteness while only age of the vegetable growers had no significant relationship with&#13;
their adoption of IPM practices.

<title>FARMERS' KNOWLEDGE ON ADVERSE EFFECT OF USING AGRO-CHEMICALS</title>
<link>http://localhost:8080/handle/123456789/1484</link>
<description>FARMERS' KNOWLEDGE ON ADVERSE EFFECT OF USING AGRO-CHEMICALS
ISLAM, MD. SAIDUL
The purposes of this study were to identify the farmers' knowledge on adverse effect of&#13;
using agro-chemicals and to determine their selected characteristics, namely age,&#13;
education, family size, farm size, annual income, organizational participation,&#13;
cosmopoliteness, extension contact, innovativeness and attitude towards use of agro &#13;
chemicals. The study also explored the relationships between farmers' selected&#13;
characteristics with their knowledge on adverse effect of using agro-chemicals for crop &#13;
production. The study was conducted in Kolerkandi; Shekerdari, Jagannathpur and &#13;
Mirkamari villages of Solimpur Union of Ishwardi Upazila under Pabna district. Data&#13;
were collected from a sample of randomly selected 100 farmers out of a total population &#13;
of 550. The data were collected through personal interview by using an interview&#13;
schedule during the period from 20 August to 21 September 2005. Appropriate scales&#13;
were developed in order to measure the variables. Pearson's Product Moment Correlation&#13;
Co-efficient (r) were computed to examine the relationship between the concerned &#13;
variables.&#13;
Findings revealed that three-fourth (75 percent) of the respondents had medium level of &#13;
knowledge on adverse effect of using agro-chemicals as compared to 14 percent low and &#13;
11 percent high knowledge. Correlation analysis indicated that six characteristics of&#13;
farmers namely education, farm size, annual income, cosmopolitcncss, extension contact&#13;
and innovativeness had significant positive relationships with their knowledge on&#13;
adverse effect of using agro-chemicals. On the other hand, age and altitude towards use&#13;
of agro-chernicals had significant negative relationship. Family size and organizational&#13;
participation of the respondents had no relationship with their knowledge on adverse &#13;
effect of using agro-chernicals.
