<title>YIELD AND QUALITY OF CHICKPEA AS AFFECTED BY SOWING DATES</title>
<link>http://localhost:8080/handle/123456789/3057</link>
<description>YIELD AND QUALITY OF CHICKPEA AS AFFECTED BY SOWING DATES
ALI, MD. YEASIN
A field experiment was conducted at the Agronomy research field of Sher-e-Bangla&#13;
Agricultural University, Dhaka, during the period from November 2014 to June 2015 to&#13;
observe the effect of sowing dates and variety on growth, yield and quality of chickpea.&#13;
The experiment comprised of main plot: two chickpea varieties: BARI Chola-5 and BARI&#13;
Chola-9 and sub-plots to be five different sowing dates: November 05, November 20,&#13;
December 05, December 20 and January 04. The experiment was laid out in split- plot&#13;
design with three replications. The results revealed significant variations in date to&#13;
emergence, plant height, number of branches plant&#13;
maturity, number of pods plant&#13;
-1&#13;
, pod length, seeds pod&#13;
-1&#13;
, days to first flowering, days to&#13;
-1&#13;
, weight of 1000 seeds, seed&#13;
yield, stover yield, biological yield, shelling percentage and harvest index due variety and&#13;
sowing dates. Seed quality attributes viz germination percentage, vigor index, number of&#13;
leaves per seedling, shoot length, root length and total dry matter content of seedling also&#13;
varied due to variety and sowing time. Delayed sowing affected the chickpea plant&#13;
growth, its yield and the quality of seed. In the case of varieties, more or less significant&#13;
variation was observed in all parameters, here, BARI Chola-9 showed better performance&#13;
over BARI Chola-5. Interaction of variety and sowing date significantly affected the seed&#13;
yield. BARI Chola-9 sown on November 20 produced maximum seed yield &#13;
and that the lowest seed yield &#13;
January 04. The maximum weight of 1000 seeds, highest stover yield, harvest index,&#13;
maximum germination percentage and vigor index were found when chickpea was sown on 20 November and ensure the best performance. Irrespective of variety, delayed&#13;
sowings showed lower performance on all parameters especially yield contributing&#13;
parameters and yield of chickpea

was laid out in a split-plot design with 3 replications. The present study&#13;
revealed that vermicompost had significant effect on most of the yield and quality&#13;
contributing parameters. Results demonstrated that yield and other parameters&#13;
increased with increasing vermicompost level. Among the sixteen treatment&#13;
combination, Asterix with vermicompost at the rate of 4 t/ha produced the maximum&#13;
yield (36.01 t/ha) but Asterix with vermicompost at the rate of 6t/ha showed the&#13;
highest specific gravity, dry matter, glucose, sucrose, ascorbic acid, antioxidant and&#13;
polyphenol content. These two combinations also showed little bit higher&#13;
concentration of glucose and sucrose compared to those of other combinations.In case&#13;
of ambient storage condition; dry matter, specific gravity, starch, polyphenol and&#13;
ascorbic acid decreased with increasing storing period while weight loss, total soluble&#13;
solid (TSS), glucose, sucrose and antioxidant content increased with increasing&#13;
storing period of up to 60 days. Lady Rosetta and Asterix may store under ambient&#13;
storage condition up to 60 DAS without imparting any significant quality losses just&#13;
prior to sprouting of tuber. It may be concluded that, the potato growers of&#13;
Bangladesh may apply vermicopmpost on their field at the rate of 6 t/ha for &#13;
maintaining better yield and good processing quality.  &#13;

<title>EFFECT OF PLANT SPACING AND NUMBER OF TPS PER HILL ON GROWTH, YIELD AND ECONOMIC RETURN OF SEEDLING TUBER DERIVED FROM TRUE POTATO SEED</title>

<description>EFFECT OF PLANT SPACING AND NUMBER OF TPS PER HILL ON GROWTH, YIELD AND ECONOMIC RETURN OF SEEDLING TUBER DERIVED FROM TRUE POTATO SEED
SARMIN, SONIA
A field experiment was conducted at the research field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural&#13;
University, Dhaka, during the period from October 2013 to March 2014, to investigate&#13;
the effect of spacing and number of true potato seed hill' on growth, yield and economic&#13;
return of seedling tuber production. The experiment comprised two factors. Factor A:&#13;
Plant spaeing(3); S1 -25cm x 4cm, S2-25cm x 5cm, S3-25cm x 6cm and Factor B: number&#13;
of TPS hilr&#13;
1 (3)viz; P&#13;
1 -1 TPS hiw', P2&#13;
-2 TPS hiw',P3-3 TPS hilF'.The experiment was&#13;
laid oud in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Plant&#13;
spacing and / or number of TPS hill1  had significant effect on most of the growth and&#13;
yield contributing characters studied in this experiment. Yield parameters such as number&#13;
of seedling tuber m 2&#13;
 gradually decreased with increasing spacing on the other hand,&#13;
average seedling tuber weight increased with increasing plant spacing. In case of yield&#13;
25cm x 5 cm spacing exhibited maximum yield (t hi'). For number of TPS hilF'. 2TPS&#13;
hill' performed the best performance for the production of maximum yield (t ha').&#13;
Among the 45 treatment combination though S&#13;
2P, and S,P3  produced the maximum&#13;
number of seedling tubers m 2&#13;
(837) and average weight of seedling tuber (9.73gm),&#13;
respectively but S&#13;
2P2&#13;
 was the best combination for the production of maximum yield&#13;
(53.93 t ha &#13;
.5. &#13;
It may be concluded that Productivity of view Point 2 TPS hill' at 25cm x&#13;
Scm spacing was the best both in terms of maximum yield and highest benefit cost ratio.
