<description>EFFECT OF ORGANIC AND INORGANIC FERTILIZERS ON GROWTH, YIELD AND QUALITY OF AROMATIC RICE IN BORO SEASON
SULTANA, REFAT
The present investigation ent it led “Effect of organic and inorganic fertilizers on growth,&#13;
yield and quality of aromatic rice in boro season” was conducted from December 2018 to&#13;
June 2019 at the Research Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka,&#13;
Bangladesh. The experiment was done mainly to show the performance of some selected&#13;
aromatic rice varieties in boro season under organic and inorganic fertilizer. The&#13;
experiment comprised of two factors; viz. Factors A: Two fertilization methods - Organic&#13;
fertilizer (T&#13;
1&#13;
) and Inorganic fertilizer (T&#13;
2&#13;
) and Factor B: Six different aromatic rice&#13;
varieties (Chiniatop 1, Katari2, Dulabhog (BR-5), Zirabhog, BRRI dhan34 and BRRI &#13;
dhan50). The experiment was laid out in a Split Plot Design with three replications and 12&#13;
treatment combinations. Different treatment combinations expressed significant&#13;
differences due to their interaction effect on morphological, physiological, yield&#13;
contributing traits, yield and grain quality parameters. Considering the variety the tallest&#13;
plant (149.4 cm), highest number of total tillers hill&#13;
-1&#13;
1&#13;
(13.49), highest number of leaves hill&#13;
-1&#13;
 (13.62), highest effective tillers hill&#13;
(25.33), highest leaf area index (3.42), highest&#13;
SPAD reading (47.52), highest Stomatal conductance (0.59 mmolCO&#13;
2&#13;
), highest&#13;
number of total dry matter (19.52 g), highest number of total spikelet panicle&#13;
 (209.5),&#13;
highest number of filled spikelet panicle&#13;
-1&#13;
 (189.0), maximum grain size (15.90 mg),&#13;
highest grain yield (3.20 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
), highest straw yield (6.24 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
), highest biological yield&#13;
(9.44 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
), highest harvest index (34.81%) were found in Chiniatop1 variety and&#13;
maximum ineffective tillers hill&#13;
-1&#13;
 (1.52), maximum unfilled spikelet panicle&#13;
 (40.10) and&#13;
maximum grain sterility percentage (34.39%) were found in Zirabhog variety. Again&#13;
considering the fertilizer application organic fertilizer was showed better performance than&#13;
inorganic fertilizer. Considering both variety and fertilizer used, the tallest plant (149.5&#13;
cm), the highest number of total tillers hill&#13;
-1&#13;
 (14.55), highest effective tillers hill&#13;
 (12.43),&#13;
highest number of leaves hill&#13;
-1&#13;
 (26.87), highest total dry mater (22.37 g), highest leaf area&#13;
index (3.44), highest SPAD reading (48.53), highest stomatal conductance (0.53 m mol&#13;
CO&#13;
2&#13;
 m&#13;
-2&#13;
 s&#13;
-1&#13;
), highest total spikelet panicle&#13;
-1&#13;
m&#13;
-2&#13;
-1&#13;
s&#13;
-1&#13;
-1&#13;
-1&#13;
 (231.6), highest filled spikelet panicle&#13;
&#13;
(213.10), highest grain size (16.33 mg), highest grain yield (4.38 t ha&#13;
), highest straw&#13;
yield (8.43 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
), highest biological yield (12.81 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
) and highest harvest index&#13;
(38.67%) were recorded from the combined treatment of V&#13;
1&#13;
T&#13;
1&#13;
 (Chiniatop 1+Organic&#13;
fertilizer) and highest ineffective tillers hill&#13;
-1&#13;
-1&#13;
 (3.56), highest unfilled spikelet panicle&#13;
&#13;
(43.43) and highest grain sterility (39.63%) were recorded from the combined treatment of&#13;
V&#13;
4&#13;
T&#13;
2&#13;
 (Zirabhog+Inorganic fertilizer). Among the aromatic rice cultivars Chiniatop 1&#13;
showed better performance in case of grain qualities such as strong aroma, maximum&#13;
length-breadth ratio (4.37), maximum elongation ratio (1.53) and minimum cooking&#13;
duration under organic fertilizer than inorganic fertilizer. From the above discussion, &#13;
Chiniatop1 was showed better performance under organic fertilizer in boro season. &#13;

<title>EFFECT OF FERTILIZER ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF SWEET POTATO AT FARMER FIELD AT JAMALPUR, BANGLADESH</title>
<link>http://localhost:8080/handle/123456789/4105</link>
<description>EFFECT OF FERTILIZER ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF SWEET POTATO AT FARMER FIELD AT JAMALPUR, BANGLADESH
LATIF, TANVIR MOHAMMAD ABDUL
Potato is one of the priority vegetable crops in the highlands of Eritrea growing &#13;
as a key component in the livelihood systems of farmers. Potato requires a&#13;
variety of balanced plant mineral nutrients for growth and development without&#13;
which yield and qualities of tubers are reduced. Potato growers in Bangladesh&#13;
commonly use both organic and inorganic fertilizer to support crop growth.&#13;
However this assumption is based on the result obtained from recent years&#13;
finding’s. As a result the yield and quality of potato produced in Bangladesh is&#13;
very low as compared with international standards. Therefore the present&#13;
experiment was conducted to assess the effect of different fertilizers levels on&#13;
growth and productivity of potato varieties at Jamalpur, Bangladesh. The&#13;
experiment was conducted in factorial Randomized Complete Block Design&#13;
with twelve treatment combinations of four varieties (V1: Annou Beni, V2:&#13;
Annou Kougane, V3: Kokei 14 Go and V4: BARI Sweet potato12) and three&#13;
fertilizer application (T0: No chemical fertilizer and no compost, T1: BARI&#13;
fertilizer dose, and T2: Maruhisa dose (Chemical fertilizer + improved&#13;
compost)) replicated thrice. The results of the study showed that V4 variety and&#13;
T2 had significant effect on growth and yield parameters. Plant height, leaf&#13;
number per plant and branch per plant were higher in V4 variety (plant height&#13;
21.33cm, leaf number per plant 24.44 and number of branch per plant 5.0&#13;
respectively), T2 fertilizer application, and V4T2 treatment. The highest plant&#13;
height, number of leaf and number of branch per plant were shown in 100 days&#13;
treatment for V4T2 treatment. The result also indicated that V4T2 (V4 variety&#13;
treated with T2 fertilizer) produced significantly highest tuber length (19.43&#13;
cm), tuber diameter (18.70 cm) and tuber weight (1.01 kg) per plant,  and tuber&#13;
yield of 15.65 t/ha. The yield analysis result revealed that maximum yield of&#13;
sweet potato was obtained from the application of T2 fertilizer on V4 variety&#13;
than other varieties. On the whole, it gives an impression that using T2:&#13;
Maruhisa fertilizer and V4 (BARI Sweet potato12) will have good influence on&#13;
growth and tuber yield.
