<link>http://localhost:8080/handle/123456789/2553</link>
<description>PROBLEMS FACED BY THE FARMERS IN MAIZE CULTIVATION
MORTUZA, S M GOLAM
The purpose of this study was to determine the problems faced by the farmers in maize cultivation and explore the relationship of the selected characteristics of the maize growers with their problems faced in maize cultivation. The selected characteristics were age, level of education, family size, farm size, and annual family income, maize cultivation area, training exposure on maize cultivation, extension media contact, cosmopolitans and knowledge on maize cultivation. Data were gathered from 82 maize growers of four villages of Nabagram Union of Manikganj Sadar Upazilla under Manikganj district by using a pretested interview schedule during the period from 15th January to 13th February, 2015. For harmonious representation from each village, 10 percent of the maize growers were selected as the sample by using stratified random sampling method. Pearson's Product Moment Co-efficient of Correlation was used to examine the relationship of the selected characteristics of the maize growers with their problems faced in maize cultivation. The findings revealed that more than two third (67.10 percent) of the respondents faced medium problem in maize production activities and 19.50 percent faced low problems and 13.40 percent faced high problems. Hence, findings again reveal that most (80.50 percent) of the farmers faced medium to high problems in maize production. Correlation analysis indicated that among the ten selected independent variables maize cultivation area, training exposure on maize cultivation, extension media contact, cosmopolitenes and knowledge on maize cultivation had significant and negative relationship with their problems faced while age, level of education, family size, farm size, and annual family income had no significant relationship with their problems faced in maize cultivation. Farmers faced higher problems in ‘Lower market price of maize’ followed by ‘Lack of quality seeds’ and ‘Lack of training on maize cultivation’.

<title>BARRIERS IMPEDING MUSHROOM CULTIVATION</title>
<link>http://localhost:8080/handle/123456789/837</link>
<description>BARRIERS IMPEDING MUSHROOM CULTIVATION
PAYEL, SADIA TABASSUM
Mushrooms are very nutritious products that can be generated from&#13;
lignocelluloses waste materials; and are rich in crude fiber and protein. The&#13;
climate of Bangladesh is favorable for mushroom cultivation. Although&#13;
mushroom is nutritious food in many countries of the world, but the production&#13;
and consumption of mushroom is yet to be popular in Bangladesh. The purpose&#13;
of the study was to determine the barriers impeding mushroom cultivation and&#13;
to explore the contributing characteristics of the mushroom growers to barriers&#13;
impeding mushroom cultivation. Savar municipality was purposively selected&#13;
as the study area from Savar upazila under Dhaka district. Data were collected&#13;
using interview schedule from a sample of 114 mushroom growers out of 204&#13;
growers selected by random sampling. To measure the dependent variable 20&#13;
barriers were selected and scale score was used to determine the barriers&#13;
impeding mushroom cultivation. For making comparative analysis of the 20&#13;
selected barriers impeding mushroom cultivation an overall barriers impeding&#13;
mushroom cultivation Index (BIMCI) was calculated. Multiple regression was&#13;
used to analyze the contribution of selected characteristics of the mushroom&#13;
growers to the barriers impeding mushroom cultivation. The findings revealed&#13;
that majority (74.6%) of the growers faced medium barriers of mushroom&#13;
cultivation compared to 11.4 percent faced low and 14.0 percent faced high&#13;
barriers of mushroom cultivation. The overall contribution was 51.8%.&#13;
Experience in mushroom cultivation, knowledge on mushroom cultivation,&#13;
attitude towards mushroom and credit availability showed the negative&#13;
significant contribution to the barriers impeding mushroom cultivation. Other&#13;
characteristics of mushroom growers had no significant contribution to the&#13;
barriers impeding mushroom cultivation. The findings also revealed that low&#13;
technical knowledge on mushroom cultivation, lack of market facilities were&#13;
the major barriers among selected twenty barriers. On the basis of findings it &#13;
can be concluded that consultation and training programs on mushroom&#13;
cultivation, well developed market facility and giving credit facility for&#13;
mushroom cultivation can reduce the barriers impeding mushroom cultivation.

<title>EXPLORATION OF MARKETING PROBLEMS OF POTATO FARMERS IN TETULIA UPAZILA UNDER PANCHAGARH DISTRICT</title>
<link>http://localhost:8080/handle/123456789/836</link>
<description>EXPLORATION OF MARKETING PROBLEMS OF POTATO FARMERS IN TETULIA UPAZILA UNDER PANCHAGARH DISTRICT
TABASUM, MOST. TANIA
Agriculture is the backbone of the economy of Bangladesh. Potato&#13;
production has increased rapidly in Bangladesh over the past two&#13;
decades, but continued growth is constrained by marketing imperfections.&#13;
The purpose of the study was to explore the extent of marketing problems&#13;
faced by the potato growers. Besides, attempt was made to estimate the&#13;
contribution of the selected characteristics of the potato growers to their&#13;
marketing problems. The study was conducted at Tetulia upazila under&#13;
Panchagarh district. Data were collected from randomly selected 114&#13;
potato farmers by using an interview schedule. Majority (51.8%) of the&#13;
potato farmers faced high marketing problems of potato, while 48.2&#13;
percent had medium marketing problems. Multiple regression method&#13;
was administered and 10 independent variables namely: age, education,&#13;
annual income, organizational participation, investment in potato&#13;
cultivation, land under potato cultivation, use of post harvest practices in&#13;
potato cultivation, farm to market distance, storage facilities, and&#13;
accessibility of marketing information were fitted together in enter&#13;
multiple regression analysis. Multiple regression exposed that among the&#13;
selected characteristics, education, annual family income, use of post&#13;
harvest practices in potato cultivation,  storage facilities and accessibility&#13;
to market information were negatively significant and age and farm to&#13;
market distance were positively significant and combinedly provided&#13;
51.80 percent contribution to marketing problems of potato while&#13;
organizational participation, investment in potato cultivation and land&#13;
under potato cultivation were insignificant contribution to their marketing&#13;
problems of potato.

<description>COMPARATIVE EFFECTIVENESS OF FAMILY DEVELOPMENT APPROACH AND GROUP BASED APPROACH OF DIPSHIKHA ACTIVITIES
KHATUN, ASMA
The purpose of the study was to assess the comparative effectiveness of Family &#13;
Development Approach (FDA) and Group Based Approach (GBA) of&#13;
Dipshikha activities. Besides, attempt was made to explore the contribution of&#13;
the selected characteristics on the effectiveness of Dipshikha activities. The&#13;
study was conducted at Ghoraghat upazila under Dinajpur district. Data were&#13;
collected from randomly selected 135 beneficiaries where 88 for Family&#13;
Development Approach and 47 for Group Based Approach by using an&#13;
interview schedule. The effectiveness were measured by computing the&#13;
changes in  housing condition, drinking water sources, sanitation conditions, &#13;
health awareness, medical treatment and family assets of pre and post&#13;
Dipshikha period under both of the approaches. Full model regression method&#13;
was administered to determine the contribution of the selected characteristics of&#13;
Dipshikha activities as perceived by the beneficiaries. The findings revealed&#13;
that overwhelming majority (84.1%) of the beneficiaries had perceived medium&#13;
effectiveness of Dipshikha activities under Family Development Approach and&#13;
87.3% of the beneficiaries had perceived medium effectiveness under  Group&#13;
Based Approach. The simple t- test showed that there was no significant&#13;
difference between the effectiveness of FDA and GBA of Dipshika activities.&#13;
Education, annual family income and training exposure had positive&#13;
contribution to the effectiveness of FDA of Dipshikha.  On the other hand,&#13;
Education, family savings and training exposure had positive contribution to&#13;
the effectiveness of GBA of Dipshikha. The findings also revealed the overall&#13;
effectiveness of Dipshikha activities. Education, training exposure and attitude&#13;
towards Dipshikha had positive contribution on Dipshikha activities in both&#13;
FDA and GBA. Other characteristics of Dipshikha beneficiaries had no&#13;
significant contribution on the effectiveness of Dipshikha activities.
