<title>COMPARATIVE ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF BEAN AND BOTTLE GOURD PRODUCTION IN SELECTED AREA OF GOPALGONJ DISTRICT</title>
<link>http://localhost:8080/handle/123456789/1755</link>
<description>COMPARATIVE ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF BEAN AND BOTTLE GOURD PRODUCTION IN SELECTED AREA OF GOPALGONJ DISTRICT
BITHI, SHARMIN ZAHAN
The present study was designed with a view to analyze the comparative economic aspects of&#13;
the selected vegetables such as bean &amp; bottle gourd production. A total of 60 bean &amp; bottle&#13;
gourd producing farmers were randomly selected from two villages under Gopalgonj sadar&#13;
and Muksudpur Upazila in Gopalgonj. Mainly tabular analysis was done to achieve the major&#13;
objectives of the study. Cobb-Douglas production function model was also used to identify&#13;
and measure the specific effects of the factors on vegetables production. The findings of the&#13;
study revealed that the productions of selected vegetables were profitable. The per hectare&#13;
total costs of production of bottle gourd and bean were Tk. 156434 and Tk. 148183,&#13;
respectively and the corresponding gross incomes were Tk.305000 and Tk. 242500,&#13;
respectively. The estimated net return of producing bottle gourd and bean were Tk.148566&#13;
and Tk.94317, respectively. The results indicate that bottle gourd farmers received the highest&#13;
gross return and net return compared to bean producers. Functional analysis revealed that the&#13;
variation of yield was greatly influenced by the human labour,  fertilizers, manure and&#13;
irrigation. These factors were directly or jointly responsible for the variation of yields. The&#13;
study also revealed that the farmers faced various types of problems, such as lack of irrigation&#13;
facilities, shortage of human labour, high price of fertilizers and insecticides, non-availability&#13;
of quality seeds, low market price of product at harvest period, lack of storage facilities and&#13;
inadequate transportation facilities.

<description>EFFICIENCY OF RICE-CUM-FISH CULTURE IN A SELECTED AREA OF MYMENSINGH DISTRICT
AKTER, SURAIYA
Rice and fish have been an essential part of life and culture of the people of Bangladesh.&#13;
The rice-cum-fish culture is an innovative farming system in which, rice is the main&#13;
enterprise and fish production is taken as additional means to secure extra income. The&#13;
present study was designed to determine the profitability and resource use efficiency of&#13;
rice-cum-fish culture. Mymensingh district was selected for the study on the basis of&#13;
extensive cultivation of rice-cum-fish. Simple random sampling technique had been used&#13;
for collecting data from 60 sample farmers through interview schedule. After analyzing&#13;
the data, per hectare gross return, net return, and gross margin were found to be Tk.&#13;
240600, 116260, and 131560 respectively. Total cost of rice-cum-fish culture was&#13;
calculated at Tk. 124340 per hectare. Benefit Cost Ratio

In Bangladesh, among different kinds of winter vegetables bottle gourd is important&#13;
because of its high nutritive value and higher economic return. The present study was&#13;
designed to determine the profitability and resource use efficiency of bottle gourd production and its impact on the socio economic status of the&#13;
farmer in Rupganj Upazilla of Narayanganj district. A purposive random sampling&#13;
technique was used in this study. A total of 60 bottle gourd farmers from three villages&#13;

<title>A COMPARATIVE ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF GARLIC AND BORO RICE IN SOME SELECTED AREAS OF NATORE DISTRICT</title>

<description>A COMPARATIVE ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF GARLIC AND BORO RICE IN SOME SELECTED AREAS OF NATORE DISTRICT
HOSSAIN, MD. SAZZAD
This study was undertaken to assess the comparative profitability of garlic and boro rice&#13;
production. A total of 60 farmers (30 for garlic growers and 30 for boro rice growers) were&#13;
selected randomly from three villages namely: Jogendranagar, Durgapur and Khubjipur&#13;
under Gurudaspur Upazila in Natore district. Tabular technique and statistical analysis&#13;
were done to achieve the objectives of the study. The Cobb-Douglas production function&#13;
was used in this study to determine the effects of individual inputs on garlic and boro rice&#13;
production.      &#13;
The major findings of the study were that the cultivation of garlic and boro rice was&#13;
profitable from the view point of farmers. The total return per hectare for garlic and boro&#13;
rice were Tk. 469056.23 and Tk. 195712.24 respectively. The gross cost of garlic was Tk.&#13;
278085.08 and for boro rice was Tk. 145960.9. Again the net return of garlic and boro rice&#13;
were Tk. 190971.15 and Tk. 49751.34, respectively. The undiscounted Benefit Cost Ratio&#13;
(BCR) was 1.69 and 1.34 for garlic and boro rice production, respectively. The results&#13;
indicated that garlic production was more profitable than the boro rice production. It was&#13;
also evident from the study that per hectare net returns were influenced by most of the&#13;
factors included in model namely: human labor, seed, fertilizer and manure, insecticides&#13;
and pesticides, power tiller, and irrigation. These factors were directly or jointly&#13;
responsible for influencing per hectare net returns for garlic and boro rice production. The&#13;
study also showed that farmers producing garlic and boro rice faced some problems, mainly&#13;
related to production and marketing of the crops. It may be concluded that the farmers&#13;
should be encouraged to grow more garlic rather than boro rice as a means of increasing&#13;
farm income through diversification of crop production in the area under study.
