<title>GENETIC VARIABILITY AND PATH ANALYSIS IN ASH GOURD (BENINCASA HISPIDA)</title>
<link>http://localhost:8080/handle/123456789/2087</link>
<description>GENETIC VARIABILITY AND PATH ANALYSIS IN ASH GOURD (BENINCASA HISPIDA)
Latif, M. A.; Ahmed, M. A.; Alam, M. M.
Study on the variabilities, genetic parameters, character associations and path coefficients between&#13;
yield and fourteen important characteristics of ten ash gourd genotypes were conducted to&#13;
determine the critical traits that contribute to yield. The genotypes exhibited a wide range of&#13;
variability for all the characters studied. Heritability (h\) estimates were high for all the characters&#13;
except number of female flower per plant, edible fruit length and diameter. Highest Genetic&#13;
Advance in Percentage of Mean (GAPM) were observed in node order of first male and female&#13;
flower anthesis followed by plant height at first male and female flower anthesis and edible fruit&#13;
yield per plant and number of plant per hectare. Edible fruit yield had high negative rp and rg' with&#13;
plant height for first male and female flower anthesis, days to first male and female flower anthesis&#13;
and edible fruit yield per plant. Yield had also high negative rg with node order of first male and&#13;
female flower anthesis and positive rg with number of female flower per plant and edible fruit&#13;
length. Edible fruit length and weight of individual fruit directly contributed to the yield of ash&#13;
gourd. For increasing yield, selection should be based on plants bearing more fruits with higher&#13;
length and weight.

<title>EFFECTIVENESS OF INFORMATION SOURCES AS PERCEIVED BY THE SUB-ASSISTANT AGRICULTURE OFFICERS</title>

<description>EFFECTIVENESS OF INFORMATION SOURCES AS PERCEIVED BY THE SUB-ASSISTANT AGRICULTURE OFFICERS
Alam, M. M.; Islam, M. R.; Bhuiyan, M. H.
The specific objective of the study was to determine the effectiveness of information sources as&#13;
perceived by the Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officers (SAAOs). Attempts were also made to determine&#13;
eight selected characteristics of the SAAOs and their relationship with effectiveness of information&#13;
sources. Ten in formation sources were considered in this study for measuring effectiveness. Data&#13;
were collected from a sample of 100 SAAOs of the five Upazilas of Chapainawabgonj district.&#13;
Pearson's correlation co-efficient was used to determine the relationships between the dependent and&#13;
independent variables. It was revealed from the study that majority (90 percent) of the respondents'&#13;
opined that these information sources were moderate to highly effective compared to only 10 percent&#13;
of the respondents' opined these sources were less effective. In respect of relationship between&#13;
dependent and independent variables it was revealed that except age and annual family income of the&#13;
respondents all other characteristics such as service length, training received, organizational&#13;
participation. job facilities. attitude towards rice production technologies and use of communication&#13;
media were found to be significant.

<title>EFFECT OF VERMICOMPOST AND NPK FERTILIZERS ON THE POTASSIUM AND SULPHUR CONTENTS IN WHEAT AND THE POST HARVEST SOIL</title>
<link>http://localhost:8080/handle/123456789/2085</link>
<description>EFFECT OF VERMICOMPOST AND NPK FERTILIZERS ON THE POTASSIUM AND SULPHUR CONTENTS IN WHEAT AND THE POST HARVEST SOIL
Bhuiyan, M. S. I.; Islam, M. N.; Haque, M. S.
A field experiment was conducted at the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Farm, Dhaka 1207 during the&#13;
Rabi season of2004-2005 to study the effect ofvermicompost and NPK on potassium and sulphur content of&#13;
wheat and in the post harvest soil. The treatments consisted of 4 levels of vermicomposts viz. V. (0 t ha"), VI&#13;
(I t ha"), V, (2 t ha·I),V3 (3 t ha"), and 4 levels of chemical fertilizers viz. F,,= (0-0-0 kg NPK ha'), F1= low&#13;
(40-30-20 kg NPK ha'), F, = medium (80-60-40 kg NPK ha'), F3= high (120-80-60 kg NPK ha") as N-P,O,K20&#13;
with 16 treatments combinations. The results demonstrated that with increasing the doses of&#13;
vermicomposts and chemical fertilizers, K and S content were increased in wheat straw at three stages and in&#13;
the post harvest soil significantly. The highest doses of verrnicompost and chemical fertilizers enhanced&#13;
potssium and sulphur content at the maximum tillering stage.
