RAHMAN, MD. SAZZADUR
Thai Koi is one of the most important aquaculture fish species for its production and popularity
among the people in Bangladesh. The objectives of this study were to determine the extent of
problems faced by the fish farmers in Thai Koi culture and to explore the contribution of selected
characteristics of the farmers on their problems faced in Thai Koi culture. The study was conducted
with randomly selected 115 Thai Koi fish farmers in Mutagachha upazila under Mymensingh
district. A pre-tested interview schedule was used to collect data from the respondents during 24
May, 2022 to 25
th
June, 2022. Problems faced in Thai Koi culture was the dependent variable and
its was measured by on basis of problem faced scores. The majority, 60 percent of the farmers
faced medium problems in Thai Koi culture, 23.48 percent faced low problems and 16.52 percent
faced high problems in Thai Koi culture. Fish farmers level of education, extension media contact,
cosmopoliteness and training exposure on fish farming was the contributing factors for their
problems faced in Thai Koi culture. According to Problem Faced Index (PFI), ‘high price of feed’
ranked highest and “social or political pressure” ranked as lowest position. Department of Fisheries
(DoF), the sole government extension services provider to fish farmers and other NGOs (e.g.,
BRAC, RDRS, CARE, ASA & World Fish Bangladesh etc.) works for increasing Thai Koi culture
in Bangladesh should take necessary steps to minimize farmer’s problems.

2021-01-01T00:00:00ZCONSUMERS’ PERCEPTION TOWARDS ORGANIC FOOD IN SOME SELECTED AREAS OF BANGLADESHAKTER, TAHMINAhttp://archive.saulibrary.edu.bd:8080/xmlui/handle/123456789/48592023-03-28T08:24:19Z2021-01-01T00:00:00ZCONSUMERS’ PERCEPTION TOWARDS ORGANIC FOOD IN SOME SELECTED AREAS OF BANGLADESH
AKTER, TAHMINA
The present development in the food market indicates that organic food became one
of the important parts of the market. The purposes of the study were t hus to describe
the selected characteristics of the consumers perception towards organic food; to
determine the extent of consumers perception towards organic food and to explore the
relationship between each of the selected characteristics of consumers with their
perception towards organic food. The stud y was purposively conducted at Narsingdi
and Dhaka district. Validated and well-structured interview schedule was used to
collect data from 105 consumers during
15
th
February, 2022 to 15
March, 2022
.
Descriptive statist ics and Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation was used. The
majority (79.05 percent) of the respondents had favorable perception towards organic
food compared to having 14.28 percent unfavorable
perception towards organic food
and only 6.67 percent had neutral perception
towards organic food, respectively.
Among seven selected characteristics of the consumer five characterist ics namely;
education, source of weekly food shopping, extent of information received about
organic food and availabilit y of organic food had significant positive relationship with
their perception towards organic food but barriers to purchasing organic food had
negat ively significant relationship with their perception towards organic food. The
rest two characteristics namely age and annual family income had no significant
relationship with their
perception towards organic food.

2021-01-01T00:00:00ZFARMERS’ INNOVATIVENESS TO USE MODERN AGRICULTURAL MACHINERIES UNDER PANCHBIBI UPAZILA, JOYPURHATMIM, MALIHA HAQUEhttp://archive.saulibrary.edu.bd:8080/xmlui/handle/123456789/48582023-03-28T08:22:56Z2021-01-01T00:00:00ZFARMERS’ INNOVATIVENESS TO USE MODERN AGRICULTURAL MACHINERIES UNDER PANCHBIBI UPAZILA, JOYPURHAT
MIM, MALIHA HAQUE
The objectives of this study were to describe the selected socio-economic
characteristics of the farmers, determine innovativeness of the farmers to use modern
agricultural machineries and explore the relationships between farmers’ selected socioeconomic
characteristics and their innovativeness of using agricultural machineries.
Data were collected from ninety-one (91) randomly selected farmers from Balighata
union of Panchbibi upazila under Joypurhat district by using structured interview
schedule. It is showed that slightly above than three-fourth (78.0 percent) of the farmers
had medium innovativeness as compared to 12.1 and 9.9 percent having low and high
innovativeness respectively on modern agricultural machineries. Co-efficient of
correlation (r) analysis revealed that farmers’ farm size, area under agricultural
mechanization, annual family income, training experience, extension media contact and
number of machineries used had significant positive relationship with their
innovativeness. However, age, education, family size and organizational participation
had no significant relationships to their innovativeness of using modern agricultural
machineries. The findings may help to formulate policies towards increase of the use
of machineries in modernizing agricultural farming practice.

2021-01-01T00:00:00ZADVERSE EFFECT OF FLOOD ON FISH PRODUCTION AS PERCEIVED BY THE FARMERS OF GANGACHARA UPAZILA UNDER RANGPUR DISTRICTAL NAHIANhttp://archive.saulibrary.edu.bd:8080/xmlui/handle/123456789/48572023-03-28T08:21:37Z2021-01-01T00:00:00ZADVERSE EFFECT OF FLOOD ON FISH PRODUCTION AS PERCEIVED BY THE FARMERS OF GANGACHARA UPAZILA UNDER RANGPUR DISTRICT
AL NAHIAN
Bangladesh is frequently cited as one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change specially to
flood. Every year flood affects the farmers of Bangladesh in agriculture and fisheries sectors and
causes a huge economic loss. The purpose of the study was to ascertain the adverse effect of flood on
fish production as perceived by the farmers and to explore the relationship between the selected
characteristics of the fish farmers and their perceived adverse effect on fish production. The study
was conducted at three (3) selected unions (Gajghanta, Morneya and Barabil) of Gangachara
Upazilla which known as severe flood prone areas under Rangpur District. The data were collected
from 103 flood affected fish farmers who were proportionately and randomly selected as the sample
from the three (3) selected unions. The researcher himself collected data by personal contact with the
flood affected fish farmers through a well structured interview schedule during the period from 16
july to 07 August, 2022. The study explored that majority (59.2%) proportion of the fish farmers
perceived medium adverse effect of flood, while 40.8% perceived high adverse effect of flood on
fish production. On the basis of Standardized Adverse Effectiveness Index (SAEI), it was observed
that ‘outbreak of fish diseases due to flood’ ranked 1st followed by ‘destruction of pond/hatchery
dike’, ‘unavailability of fair price’, ‘unavailability of transportation facilities’, ‘pollution of
pond/hatchery water’, ‘unavailability of Labour’, ‘invasion and Penetration of undesirable species
due to flood’, ‘unavailability of storage facilities’, ‘unavailability of inputs’, ‘unavailability of eggs,
larva, fry, fingerling etc.’, ‘unavailability of marketing facilities’, ‘unavailability of necessary
chemicals’ and ‘unavailability of weather information’. Pearson's Product Moment Correlation coefficient
(r) was computed to determine the relationships between the selected characteristics of the
fish farmers and their perceived adverse effect on fish production. The result showed that age,
education, fish farming experience, training received in fish farming, fish farm size, and extension
media contact of the farmers had negative significant relationships with their perceived adverse
effect of flood on fish production. On the basis of the findings it may be concluded that reducing
adverse effect of flood is very essential to regularize fish production during flooding time. Emphasis
should be given to reduce higher order of adverse effects of flood on fish production.
