The objective of this study was to determine and describe the stagewise use of
cosmopolite interpersonal communication channels by the farmers in adoption of
BRRI dhan29 and the individual characteristics of the farmers and also to explore
the relationship between stagewise use of Cosmopolite Interpersonal
Communication Channels(CIPC) and selected characteristics. Data were collected
from 92 farmers of four villages of Gafargaon upazila under Mymensingh district,
by using a structured personal interview schedule. Appropriate scales were
developed in to measure the concerned variables. Statistical software package
SPSS was used to analyze the data and Karl Pearson Product Moment Correlation
Coefficient was used to test the relationship between the independent and dependent
variables. Sample size was determined by using Solvin‟s formula, which estimated a
sample size of BRRI dhan 29 growers. Farm and home visit was found to have more
uses in every stage of innovation-decision process followed by farmers training,
office call, result demonstration, group discussion and method demonstration by the
farmers. At knowledge stage 28.26%, 36.96% and 34.78% respondents use CIPC
channels in low, medium and high respectively. At persuasion stage 27.17%,
21.74% and 51.09% respondents use CIPC channels in low, medium and high
respectively . At decision stage 56.52% ,41.30% and 02.18% respondents use CIPC
channels in low, medium and high respectively. At implementation stage 61.96%
,35.87% and 02.17% respondents use CIPC channels in low, medium and high
respectively. At confirmation stage 60.87%, 35.87% and 03.26% respondents use
CIPC channels in low, medium and high respectively. The statistical analysis also
revealed that education, social participation had positive and highly significant
relationship with the overall stagewise use of CIPC. Age, family size, attitude
towards BRRI dhan29 and use of mass media had negative significant relationship
with the overall stagewise use of CIPC and farm size, annual income,
innovativeness, problems in using BRRI dhan29 had non significant relationship
with the overall stagewise use of CIPC.

The main purpose of this research was to assess the extent of participation of rural
women in homestead vegetable cultivation and to explore the relationship between
each of the selected characteristics of the rural women and their extent of participation
in homestead vegetable cultivation. The study was conducted in five villages of
Nabinagar upazila under Brahmanbaria district. The populations of rural women in
homestead vegetable cultivation in these villages were 594, from which 120 samples
were selected proportionally. An interview schedule was used for data collection. The
data were collected during 18
th
July, 2014 to 25
th
August, 2014. Appropriate scales
were developed in order to measure the variables. Majority (62.5%) of the respondent
had medium participation in winter homestead vegetable cultivation as compared to
30 percent low participation and 7.5 percent high participation. The highest
proportion (73.3%) of the respondent had medium participation in summer homestead
vegetable cultivation as compared to 22.5 percent low participation and 4.2 percent
high participation. The highest proportion (52.5%) of the respondent had medium
participation in homestead vegetable cultivation as compared to 36.7 percent low
participation and 10.8 percent high participation. Correlation analysis indicated that
five out of eleven independent variable namely farm size, extension contact,
agricultural training, decision making role and innovativeness had significant positive
relationship with their homestead vegetable cultivation. Other variables namely age,
level of education, family size, family income, knowledge of homestead vegetable
cultivation and cosmopoliteness had no significant relationship with their homestead
vegetable cultivation. Among the ten selected problem ‘lack of credit’ was ranked
first followed by ‘lack of technical knowledge’, ‘insect and disease infestation’,
‘higher price of inputs’, ‘lack of quality seeds and seedlings’, ‘cattle and goat destroy
the vegetables’ ‘lack of homestead land’, ‘lower fertility of homestead land’ and
‘lower market price of products’ while ‘lack of required information in time’ had the
last position in order of ranking.

The objectives of the study were (i) to determine and describe some selected
characteristics of the tobacco farmers. The selected characteristics were - age, education,
farm size, annual income, agricultural knowledge, organizational participation,
cosmopoliteness, innovativeness, extension contact and tobacco cultivation experience,
(ii) To assess opinion of the tobacco farmers towards alternative agricultural enterprises
to replace tobacco cultivation and (iii) to explore relationship between the selected
characteristics of the tobacco farmers and their opinion to the alternative agricultural
enterprises to replace tobacco cultivation. The study was conducted at four villages of
Gangni upazila under Meherpur district. About ten percent of the farm families were
randomly selected from a population of 996 tobacco farmers. Out of the total population
101 tobacco farmers were selected as the sample of the study. Data were collected from
the farmers through using a pre-tested structured interview schedule from 14 September
to 30 September, 2014. Pearson's product moment correlation co-efficient were used to
test relationship between the dependent and independent variables. It was revealed that
majority (50.5 percent) of the tobacco farmers opined for alternative enterprises as
moderately suitable, 30.7 percent highly suitable and 18.8 percent less suitable in respect
of timeliness and scope of application. Correlation analysis indicated that characteristics
of the tobacco farmers such as age, education, agricultural knowledge, organization
participation cosmopoliteness, extension contact, tobacco cultivation experience had
significant relationship with their opinion towards the alternative agricultural enterprises
to replace tobacco cultivation. However, farm size, annual income and innovativeness of
the tobacco farmers had no relationship with their opinion towards the alternative
agricultural enterprises to replace tobacco cultivation.
