ISLAM, MOHAMMAD AMINUL
The main purpose of the study was to determine the extent of knowledge on ecological agriculture of the farmer as supervised by Proshika. Attempts were also made to describe some selected characteristics of Proshika farmers and their relationship with knowledge of ecological agricultural practices. The selected characteristics were: age, education, farm size, area under ecological farming, farming experience, experience in ecological farming, annual income, training exposure and extension contact. One hundred Proshika fanners were randomly selected from a total of 125 farmers in Dhamrai upazilla under Dhaka district. A pre-tested questionnaire was used for collecting data through face-to-face interview. The duration of the study was 30 days from 01 to 31 August, 2007. Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (r) was used to determine the relationship of farmers’ knowledge on ecological agricultural practiccs with their selected characteristics. T-tcst was used to determine the significance of the parameters. The finding revealed that average age of the respondents was 39.34 years. In the case of educational level 61 percent was within primary level. Average farm size of the respondent was 0.76 ha and area under ecological agriculture in past and present year was same. Average farming experience of the respondent was 21.36 years. It was also found from the study that 84 percent of the respondents were in medium category in case of experience of ecological farming and they were involved 4.68 years in ecological farming. The average income of the respondents was Tk 74858.80. Majority (68 percent) of the farmers possessed medium knowledge compared to 23 percent had high knowledge and only 9 percent low knowledge on ecological agriculture.
Out of nine selected characteristics of the respondents, education, farm size, area under ecological agriculture, experience of ecological agriculture and annual income had positive significant relationship with their knowledge on ecological agriculture. Farmers’ age, training exposure and extension contract was negatively correlated with their knowledge on ecological agriculture while farming experience did not have any significant relationship with knowledge.

The main focus of the study was to have an understanding on the perception of farmers regarding effectiveness of agriculture related TV programmes for the dissemination of agricultural information. Attempt was also made to explore the relationship between some of the selected characteristics of the farmers and their perceived effectiveness of agriculture related TV programmes for the dissemination of agricultural information. The characteristics of the farmers such as age, level of education, farm size, farming experience, annual family income, agricultural knowledge, attitude towards agriculture related TV programmes, innovativeness, personal localite behavior and time spent for TV watching of the farmers. Data were collected personally through interview schedule from one hundred randomly selected farmers of three selected villages like Uttar Nari Bari, Narayonpur and Hamlaykul of Gurudaspur upazila under Natore district. Data were collected during 1 July to 15 August, 2007. The Pearson’s product moment correlation co-efficient was used to determine the relationship between the dependent and independent variables. Majority (76%) of the farmers perceived agriculture related TV programmes as medium effective while 9% high effective and 15% low effective, level of education, annual family income, agricultural knowledge, attitude towards agriculture related TV programmes, innovativeness, personal localite behavior and time spent for TV watching of the respondents had significant positive relationship with their perceived effectiveness of agriculture related TV programmes for the dissemination of agricultural information. Whereas age, farm size and farming experience of the farmers had no significant relationship with the effectiveness of agriculture related TV programmes for dissemination of agricultural information as perceived by the farmers. On the basis of Effectiveness Index (El), homestead vegetables cultivation ranked first followed by livestock raring and preparation of compost. The 4Ih and 5th information were beef fattening and poultry rearing. Preparation of nurseries and improved technologies of tree plantation were the less effective information those were ranked 10 and 11 .

he main objective of the study was to find out the extent of adoption of
modem maize cultivation by the farmers, to describe the selected
characteristics of the maize growers and also to explore the relationships
between the selected characteristics of the growers and their adoption of
modem maize cultivation. The study was conducted in a union named
Sundalpur under Daudkandi upazila of Comilla district. A total of 100 farmers
were selected as sample for the study from a population of 496. Data were
collected from the maize growers by using personal interview schedule during
the period from first January to 15 January, 2008. Apart from descriptive
statistical methods, Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Co-efficient
analysis was used in order to analyze the data. Findings indicated that the
majority (65 percent) of the growers had medium to high adoption of modern
maize cultivation while 35 percent had low adoption. Out of nine selected
characteristics of the growers, three, namely education, farm size and extension
contact, had positive significant relationship. The rest of the variables namely:
age, innovativeness, knowledge in maize cultivation, annual income,
cosmopoliteness and agricultural training exposure did not show any
significant relationships with their adoption of modern maize cultivation. Out
of 12 problems faced by the farmers, two problems in order of importance
were: (i) non-availability of hybrid seed and (ii) non-availability of storage
facilities at framer's level.

credit program. Before involvement 89 per cent of the respondents had Katcha
Ghar with tin roof, after involvement the percentage was 93. Thirty eight per
cent of the respondents used half sanitary toilet before involvement where
aflcr involvement this percentage turned into 55 per cent. Before involvement
with Gramecn Bank micro-credit program 9 per cent of the respondents'
farniJies had own tube well but after program this percentage was 19.
The farm size, annual savings, cosmopolitcncss, credit received and duration
of involvement with Grameen Bank micro credit program had significant
relationship with the impact of micro-credit. Ilowever, age, education, family
