Higher than the recommended dose of N P fertilizer. The experimental design was RCBD
and treatments were replicated three times. The result revealed that among the organic
manures, poultry manure was found best in respect of growth, yield, and seed quality
parameters, this treatment produced the highest yield (4.90 tha
-1
), tallest plant (32.66,
50.95, 78.33, 94.75 and 99.30 cm) at 30, 50 70 90 DAT and at harvest, respectively;
maximum tillers per plant for all sampling dates (8.90, 12.33, 13.10, 14.33 and 15.09) at
30, 50 70 90 DAT and at harvest, respectively and gave highest yield contributing
parameters like effective tiller hill
-1
(12.67), panicle length (21.90 cm), grain panicle
(104.15) and 1000 grain weight (21.66 g). On the other hand, 25% Higher than
recommended N P fertilizer dose gave the highest yield (4.50 tha
-1
). This dose also
produced maximum plant height and tillers plant
-1
for all growth stages, the highest number
of grains panicle
-1
(104.75), 1000 grain weight (21.67 g), and straw yield (5.33 tha
).
Considering the interactions, Poultry manure @ 5 tha
-1
(Om

), 25% higher than the
recommended dose of N P fertilizer (F
3
), gave the highest grain yield (5.83 tha
). This
interaction also gave the highest effective tiller hill
-1
(14.70), panicle length (22.33 cm),
and grain panicle
-1
(6.26 tha

2022-01-01T00:00:00ZINFLUENCE OF PLANTING METHODS AND SPACING ON YIELD AND QUALITY OF RADISH SEEDGHOSH, SHASHANKO SHEKHORhttp://archive.saulibrary.edu.bd:8080/xmlui/handle/123456789/50882023-11-19T10:10:12Z2022-01-01T00:00:00ZINFLUENCE OF PLANTING METHODS AND SPACING ON YIELD AND QUALITY OF RADISH SEED
GHOSH, SHASHANKO SHEKHOR
An experiment was carried out to study the influence of planting methods and spacing on
yield and quality of radish seed at the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural
University (SAU), from November 2021 to March 2022. Three planting methods viz. M
1
= Direct sowing of seed, M
2
= 1/3 cutting of root and M
3
= 2/3 cutting of root were
comprised with plant spacings viz., S
1
= 30 cm × 20 cm, S
2
= 30 cm × 30 cm, S
3
= 30 cm
× 40 cm. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD)
with three replications. Different planting methods showed significant variation for
growth, yield contributing parameters, yield and quality parameters of radish. The
planting method M
1
(Direct sowing of seed) showed significantly highest seed yield
plant
-1
(10.87 g) and seed yield ha
-1
(1234.00 kg) compared to M
2
(1/3 cutting of root)
and M
3
(2/3 cutting of root) treatment. M
1
(Direct sowing of seed) also showed the best
quality seeds considering highest germination percentage (88.43%) and vigor index
(1434.57) whereas M
3
(2/3 cutting of root) treatment gave the minimum results. Different
plant spacing of radish showed significant variation for growth, yield contributing
parameters, yield seed quality parameters. The highest seed yield ha
-1
(1283.33 kg) was
recorded from the plant spacing S
1
(30 cm × 20 cm) while the plant spacing S
3
(30 cm ×
40 cm) spacing gave the significantly highest germination percentage (89.00%) and vigor
index (1611.74). The treatment combination of M
1
S
3
gave the highest number of pods
plant
-1
(82.13), number of seeds pod
-1
(6.31), dry weight plant
-1
(153.70 g) and seed yield
plant
-1
(13.81 g) but the highest seed yield ha
-1
(1386.00 kg) was recorded from the
treatment combination of M
3
S
1
but the lowest seed yield ha
-1
(841.90 kg) was recorded
from M
3
S
3
. The treatment combination of M
3
S
1
gave the maximum germination
percentage (90.40%) and vigor index (1722.12) whereas M
3
S
1
gave the minimum results.
From the above results, it can be concluded that among the planting methods, M
1
(Direct
sowing of seed) performed the best regarding growth, seed yield and seed quality.
Considering plant spacing, S
1
(30 cm × 20 cm) performed the highest seed yield whereas
S
3
(30 cm × 40 cm) was the best for quality seeds production.

NAHAR, SABEKUN
The experiment was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka,
Bangladesh to study the effect of some promising chemicals and botanicals on the
management of aphid and tobacco cutworm in mustardin mustard during the period from
October 2021 to February 2022 in the Rabi season. The experiment was laid out in
Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with five different treatment viz: T
1
:
Confidor 70WG (imidacloprid) @3g/kg of seed, T
2
: Bioneemplus 1EC (azadirachtin)
@1.0 ml/L of water, T
3
: Neem seed kernel extract (azadirachtin) @50 g/L of water, T
4
:
Tracer 45 SC (spinosad) @0.4 ml/L of water and T
5
: untreated control, for the
management of aphid and tobacco cutworm of mustard with three replications for each
treatment. Data on different parameters were recorded and significant variation was
observed among different treatment. Experimental result showed that at early, mid and
late stage of flowering and fruiting the highest number of aphid and cutworm was
observed in T
5
treatment while the lowest number of aphid and cutworm was observed in
T
4
treatment. In case of aphid at flowering fruiting stage the maximum number of healthy
plant m
-2
(28 and 24.67) and higher infestation reduction percentage (76.92 and 72.78 %)
was observed in T
4
treatment. In the case of tobacco cutworm at the flowering and
fruiting stages, the highest number of healthy plants per square meter (29.33 and 28.00)
and the highest infestation reduction percentage (87.64and 76.92 %) was found in the T
4
treatment. In case of growth, yield contributing characters and yield of mustard, among
different treatments the maximum plant height (106.35 cm), number branches plant
(16.02), siliqua plant
-1
(105.10), siliqua length (4.14 cm), seeds siliqua
(26.87), 1000seed
weight
(4.02 g) and higher seed yield (1.77 t ha
-1
-1
) was obtained from T
4
treatment
which gave (84.38 %) more yield comparable to control treatment. Based on the
investigation of the above results, it may be concluded that among seed treating chemical
and few botanicals for controlling mustard aphid and tobacco cutworm, spraying Tracer
45 SC @0.4 ml/L of water at 10-day intervals was the most effective among the
management practices for controlling mustard aphid and tobacco cutworm.
