EFFECTS OF UREA TOPDRESSING AND BALL PLACEMENT ON THE GROWTH, YIELD AND NUTRIENT CONTENT OF RE-TRANSPLANTED AMAN RICE (BINA Sail)
AMIN, KNONDOKER MD. RUHUL
An experiment was conducted at Barga village under Kalihati upazilla of Tangail
district during the period from August to December. 2011 to study the effect of
urea top-dress and ball placement on the growth, yield and nutrient content of retransplanted
Aman rice (BINA sail) using completely randomized design with
three replications. During the experiment, two urea application methods (U1 =
Urea top-dress and 1)2 = Urea ball placement) and 4 transplanting and retransplanting
dates (1, = 16 September. 'l'2 = 23 September, T3 = 30 September
and f4 = 07 October) were used. The highest number of total tillers hilt', effective
tillers hilt', non-effective tillers hill". spikelet panicle". filled grains panicle".
unfilled grains panicle4. 1000-grain weight and the longest panicle was found in
U2 while plant height was highest in U1. The highest N content in straw (0.40 %)
and grain (1.02 %) were observed in U2 but P & K content (in both straw and
grain) were highest in U1. In case of planting dates, T2 showed highest results for
most of the growth and yield parameters while T4 produced the lowest. But noneffective
tillers hill" and untilled grains panicle" were highest in T4 and lowest in
T2 and T,. For N. P and K contents in straw and grain, the highest results were
recorded in T, followed by T2 while 'F4 produced the lowest. Due to the interaction
effects of two factors, U2T2 showed better results followed by U ,T2 and Ii ,T, and
poorest performances were given by U,T4 and U2T4.

EFFECTS OF VERMICOM POST AND INORGANIC FERTILIZERS ON GROWTH, YIELD AND OIL CONTENT OF MUSTARD (SAL sharisha-1 & 3)

EFFECTS OF VERMICOM POST AND INORGANIC FERTILIZERS ON GROWTH, YIELD AND OIL CONTENT OF MUSTARD (SAL sharisha-1 & 3)
ZARIN, SYDA NAYMA
A field experiment was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Farm, Dhaka
during the Rabi season of 2010-2011 to study the effects of vermicompost and inorganic
fertilizers on the growth, yield, and oil content of mustard. Two varieties such as VarietyISAU
Sharisha-1 & Variety-2SAU Sharisha-3 and 3 levels of each of vermicomposts
viz. F0, F, F2 =(0, 1.5, 2.5) t ha" and inorganic fertilizers (N, F, K, 5, Zn, B)viz. F3 F4 F5
= (40-80-120,15-3045,2040-60,10-20-30,I.2-2.4-3.6,I-2-3) kg ha" were used. The
results demonstrated that medium doses (80-3040-20-2.4-2) kg/ha of inorganic fertilizers
increased seed yield of mustard significantly. Considering the varietal effect the highest
seed yield ((.64 t ha") was found in variety-I and the lowest seed yield (1,53 (hi') was
observed in variety-2. The highest number of siliquae (165.33) was obtained from
variety-I and on the other hand the lowest number of siliquae (131.12) was obtained from
variety-2. Variety-2 showed the highest oil content (44.02%) and variety-I gave the
lowest oil content (43.02%). Effects of fertilizer showed that the highest seed yield (2.2
ha") was found from medium fertilizer (80-3040-20-2.4-2) kg/ha and the lowest seed
yield (1.07 t ha") was obtained from control treatment (F0). The highest number of
siliquae (180.8) was obtained from high fertilizer (120-45-60-30-3.6-3) kg/ha and on the
other hand the lowest number of siliquae (124.55) was obtained from low fertilizer (4015-20-10-1.2-1)
kg/ha. Medium fertilizers (80-30-40-20-2.4-2) kg/ha showed highest oil
content (44.5%) and low fertilizers (40-15-20-10-I .2-1) kg/ha give lowest oil content
(42.65%). The interaction effect showed that maximum significant seed yield (2.4 It ha")
was obtained from variety-I by the application of medium fertilizer (80-3040-20-2.4-2)
kg/ha but percentage oil content (45.4%) was maximum at Variety-2 by the application of
medium fertilizer (80-3040-20-2.4-2) kg/ha. The highest number of siliquae (196.7) was
obtained from the high fertilizer doses (12045-60-30-3.6-3) kg/ha. The oil content was
not significantly influenced by the difference of treatments.

Plant Breeding. Shcr-e-Bangla Agricultural University. Dhaka-I207 under potculture
during the Dora season (December-June) of the year 2010-Il to swdy the
effects of salinity on morphology and mineral content in shoots of some rice cultivar.
The experiment was completed using live varieties (Jatabalam. Chapsal. Kolarmocha.
BINA dhan 8 and BRRI dhan4l) and live salinity levels (0. 3. 6. 9 and 12
dSm1). The experiment was set in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) having
two factors with three replications. The plant height, total tiller number. shoot dry
weight, root dry weight, effective tiller, grain weight were highest in genotypes
BRRI dhan4 1 but Kolar-mocha showed the lowest performance under different
salinity levels. The highest concentration of Na. Ca2'and Mg2 was in Kolar-mocha
and it was lowest in BRRI dhan4l. The shoot of BRRI dhan4l contained the highest
concentration of W. Conversely. Kolar-mocha contained the lowest amount of K.
The plant height. total tiller number, shoot dry weight, root dry weight, elThctive
tiller. filled grain, grain weight were highest mO dSmd level of salinity. The highest
K content in shoot (1.64%) was recorded in 0 dSm4. The highest Na content in shoot
(1.584%) was recorded in 12 dSni' level of salinity. The Ca content recorded in
shoot was highest (1.07 %) in 6dSnf'. 'the lowest Mg (0.35%) content was in the
shoot in 0 dSm'. The highest panicle length and filled grain panicle'' was recorded
in BRRI dhan4l at 0 dSm4 level of salinity. The minimum number of unfilled grain
panicle" was found in BRRI dhan4l at 0 dSm". The highest grain yield hilr' (5.00
g) was found in BRRI dhan4l at 0 dSm" salinity level. The lowest Na content
(0.78%). Ca content (0.75%) and Mg content (0.33%) in shoot was found in the
cultivar BRRI dhan4l at the 0 dSm" salinity level. Considering the above results
cultivar BRRI dhan4l and BINA dhan S were salt tolerant. Chapsal as moderately
tolerant and Kolar-mocha and Jatahalam as susceptible cultivar.

PERFORMANCE OF BLACKGRAM (VIGNA MUNGO L.) IN PRESENCE AND ABSENCE OF BRADYRHIZOBIUM
ISLAM, MD. RASHEDUL
The experiment was conducted at the net house of Soil Science Division of
Bangladesh Agricultural Research institute (BARI), Joydebpur, Gazipur-170l during the
period from September to December 2011 to study the performance of three blackgram
varieties with and without Bradyrhizobium inociulant. There were 15 treatment
combinations and 3 replications were laid out in 45 pots in the experiment arranged in
factorial randomized complete block design. The Bradyrhizobium strains of blackgram
BARI RVm-301, BARI RVm-302, BARI RVm-303 and mixed culture along with a
uninoculated control were used for the above experiment. The selected varieties were
BARI Mash-I, BARI Mash-2 and BARI Mash-3. All the varieties showed better
performance in presence of Bradvrhizohium inoculation. Among the three varieties.
BARI Mash-2 gave the highest seed yield. Bradyrhizobium strains performed better than
uninoculated treatment in respect of different parameters like nodule number and weight,
root weight and shoot weight, root length and shoot length, pod length and pods plant".
Bradvrhizobium inoculation significantly increased nodule number and weight, seed
yield, stover yield, plant height. 1000-seed weight, pods plant", seeds pod". N content in
seed and stover, N uptake by stover and seed. Among the three strains and mixed culture,
strain BARI RVm-302 gave the highest nodule biomass and seed yield. Interaction
effects revealed with BARI Mash-2 inoculated with mixed culture gave the highest seed
yield and N uptake while non-inoculated BARI Mash-I gave the lowest seed yield.
