BAGCHI, AMIT
This investigation was conducted to assess the physico-chemical
properties of different point of Buriganga and Turag Rivers for
agricultural purpose. Total twenty samples were collected from each of'
the rivers to analyze some physico-chemical properties which are
available within the research facility of the department of Agricultural
Chemistry in Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. The analytical
parameters were -Color. Odor. pH. Total Dissolved Solids (TDS).
Salinity, Sodium (Na). Potassium (K). Calcium (Ca), Carbonate (CO3)
and Bicarbonate (FIC03). The obtained results of the present study shows
that most of the parameters were not exceed the maximum permissible
limit for irrigation, livestock and aquaculture except Bicarbonate in both
rivers.Bicarbonate was found the ranges of 31 to 91 .Smg/L. whereas the
standard limit of Bicarbonateis I .5Omg/L for irrigation. From the
statistical point of view, though there were some parameters showed the
positive correlation but most of the parameters were negatively correlated
with other parameters. From the findings, we may conclude that the
quality of rivers water was not so serious problematic for agriculture.

This experiment was conducted in the experimental held of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural
University. Dhaka to know the Combined effect of diFferent levels of Sulphur and Boron
on yield and yield contributing characters of"I3ARI sharisha-9" mustard as well as the nutrient
content and their uptake by mustard plant.s and seeds. The experiment consisted oltwo factors
namely. thur Sulphur levels (0. 10. 20 and 30kg S hzi') and thur Boron levels (0. I. 2 and 3 kg
B haS '). It was replicated thrice in a randomized complete block design. The Combined effect
of Sulphur and Boron excrted significant influence on most of the selected characteristics viz.
plant height (cm), number of branches planr' (no.). pod length (cm). capsule plani' (no.) seed
capsule-' (no.). 1000 seed weight (g), grain yield (t had), stover yield (t ha'), harvest index (%),
oil content in mustard and N. protein. K, P. S. B content in stover and seed. The highest grain
yield (2180 kg lia') was obtained for the Combined effect of S2133 treatment (20 kg S had and
3 kg B ha') because of production of the highest number of capsule planr' (241.3 no) and seed
per capsule (15.75 no). Results revealed that highest oil content (45.01%) in mustard was
recorded for 53133 treatment (30 kg S had and 3 kg B ha5. which was statistically identical
troni the result (43.80%) found for 52133 treatment (20 kg S had and 3 kg B had). Considering
the Combined effects of Sulphur and Boron on selected parameters. the treatment S2133 (20 kg
S ha and 3 kg 13 ha') could he suggested for "BARI sharisha-9" cultivation in agro-ecotogical
zone of Tejgaon. IThaka.

This study was carried out to determine some physico-chemical
properties of different lakes and pond of metropolitan city, namely
Curzon Hall, Dhanrnondi, Hatirjhecl and Shcr-c-I3angla Agriculutral
University campus. Dhaka. Ten samples were collected from the each
pond and lakes to analyze the physico-chemical properties such as Color,
Odor. pH, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Salinity. Sodium (Na),
Potassium (K), Calcium (Ca), Carbonate (CO--,) and Bicarbonate (1 1CO3).
The odor of lakes water was slightly bad and the color was light grey to
slightly black. The results of the present study shows that except pu, K
and HCO3. other measured parameters did not exceed the maximum
permissible limit. The p1! exceeded (8.22) the standard limit (>8) for
other three lakes except Hatirjheel lake. The K content exceeded the
acceptable limit (<Smg/L.) except SAU campus pond. And Bicarbonate
was found within ranges of 244 to 400mg!1. for all the pond and lakes,
whereas the standard limit of Bicarbonate is 1.50mg/L. From the
statistical point of view, most of time, pH and Bicarbonate showed
negative correlation with other parameters. So, it can be concluded that
without proper analysis of the water quality of different lakes and pond of
Dhaka city shoutd not use for drinking purposes, agricultural productions,
fisheries, livestocks, recreational activities and various industrial uses.
